Driftspace v0.3.1 - New Weapons & Improvements


MAJOR FEATURES:

  • Added 2 new weapons: flame bomb and shrapnel
  • Added a new upgrade: big magnet
  • Added 15 new enemy wave types, which feature multiple enemy types mixed together
  • Title will change color to reflect your highest score (can change in settings)

GAMEPLAY FEATURES:

  • Enemies which were previously locked to the player’s space can now fly offscreen
  • Enemies will flash white when below 50% hp
  • Enemy waves and squads now spawn with their locations randomly mirrored, effectively quadrupling the number of unique encounters
  • Added 5 new enemy squad types
  • Jumbo rounds upgrade removed

BALANCE CHANGES:

  • HP regeneration is a bit faster
  • Boosting into the sides of the screen will move scrap in the other direction much more strongly
  • All forge costs decreased
  • Shortcuts will not appear the first time you reach a new planet and are more expensive
  • Puncher: dash fires more bullets
  • Fireball: gun range slightly decreased
  • Laser: damage slightly increased
  • Rifle: gun fire rate slightly increased, and boost/dash range increased
  • Machinegun: fire rate while boosting slightly increased
  • Enemy waves can no longer spawn with a squad
  • Final set of waves in each sector no longer contain a bonus scrap wave
  • Waves of many enemies will spawn more spread out
  • Less enemies need to be killed to spawn new squads
  • Explosions deal +1 damage to enemies
  • Enemy HP in sector 1 lowered back from the previous update
  • Some enemies are easier in some sectors
  • Radius enemies are a bit smaller
  • Many other small enemy tweaks

COSMETIC FEATURES:

  • Dash indicator lights have been replaced with larger meters that are easier to see
  • Upgrades now appear in the order you attained them in
  • Enemy wave icons now display 2 enemies
  • New teal core color, black and white cores temporarily removed

COSMETIC CHANGES:

  • Most enemies are a bit darker
  • Star ring design changed slightly
  • Star bullet color changed
  • Alien bullets are closer to normal enemy bullets in color
  • Shooter firing indicator is larger and more obvious
  • Death effect when killing spawns is smaller
  • Background scroll speed adjusted when boosting into sides of screen
  • Planet approaching text appears sooner
  • Some weapon icons improved
  • Some ship skins tweaked
  • Less stars on the title screen background
  • Aliens on the title screen now reflect the current sector
  • Scrap multiplier simplified (functionally identical)
  • Many text changes

MISC:

  • More work on the final boss
  • Fixed the bug where weapons would sometimes take longer to reload when switching to them from the machinegun
  • Many other small tweaks, additions, and improvements
