Driftspace v0.3.0 - Sector 4 & More!


Lots of new stuff in this update, let me know what you think!


NEW FEATURES:

  • Sector 4 is now accessible
  • Added two new enemies, one of which is exclusive to sector 4
  • A new enemy wave type and squad types which include the new spinning star enemy
  • Added two new upgrades
  • Added customizable ship skins (14 total) and customizable core colors (9 total) which can be changed from the settings menu
  • Various new settings added and reorganized the settings menu a bit
  • Shortcuts to sectors are now purchased with scrap on the planet of the respective shortcut

COSMETIC:

  • Background overhaul, now has a parallax scrolling effect with 3 layers of stars
  • Backgrounds are more distinct for each area with unique stars and more vibrant colors
  • On planets you now use your scrap to ‘forge’ weapons and upgrades instead of purchasing them. Only changes are to text and sfx, no gameplay difference.
  • Visual changes to some enemies, such as longer shield enemies
  • Visual and audio tweaks to player bullets
  • Visual effect added when bullets hit enemies if you have the electrifier
  • High scores now have different colors depending on how high your score is

GAMEPLAY CHANGES/BALANCE:

  • Sector 1 is full length
  • Enemies are stronger in sector 1 and weaker in later sectors
  • Swapped the ‘asteroid belt’ and ‘fly’s nest’ sectors, so asteroids now appear in sector 2 and flies now appear in sector 3
  • Removed the fly and asteroid waves which appeared in sectors 2 and 3
  • Some enemy waves cannot appear in some sectors to make each sector feel more unique
  • A base piece of scrap now rewards 2 instead of 1, and everything which consumes scrap costs twice as much. This has no effect on gameplay and is only done to make the multiplier between sectors more clear.
  • Scrap costs when forging are more varied and are cheaper overall. Sector 1 is more expensive to account for it now being full length.
  • Repairing damage costs 1 less scrap per hit taken but takes twice as long
  • Flies heavily rebalanced, more difficult in most aspects
  • All enemies rebalanced and sector specific enemy balancing
  • More enemies spawn overall
  • Buffed many upgrades
  • Many other balance tweaks

MISC:

  • Various optimizations across the game
  • Tutorial improvements and tweaks
  • Various text changes
  • Volume adjustments and sfx changes
  • Lots of work done on the final boss.
  • Many other small tweaks



PLANNED REMAINING FEATURES:

  • The final sector will feature the final boss and is already mostly complete, so the next update shouldn't take as long as this one did.
  • More music
  • Still playing around with new weapons. The final game may feature 1-2 additional weapons.
  • A few other small miscellaneous features
  • Testing and polish
